It’s that time of year when my garden ant population starts to get ambitious and invades my home space. I feel bad to kill them and want to avoid using potent chemicals. So, I found this very helpful blog on natural repellents from mommypotamus on '7 ways to get rid of ants naturally'. One suggestion is to use a little peppermint or lemon essential oil. Ants apparently leave a pheromone trail when they find food, which then attracts other ants. By using essential oils on the entry points of the home, it can remove the trail and stop further intruders. I tried it today after a troop of ants kept coming in and….it worked! Hurray! My kitchen window sill has remained ant-free today.
Just one word of caution for cat owners. Make sure your cats can leave the space where you use the essential oils, as they can be very sensitive to them.
